are see-thru style scope mounts for the Ruger mini 14 dependable?
they look like the scope would be knocked out of place very easily by how they are mounted to the reciever. are they good or just a waste of money?

They are servicable.
I had this for my Mini-14 at one time. They work. If being off by 1/2" or so at 100 yards is going to totally freak you out, then do not buy them. You will have some play going on and off. You can reducd this by reattaching the scope mount to the same torque every time - I put a drop of paint on the rifle and a matching drop on the attachment screw. Then line them up. Eventually the correct torque will change - just be sure to mount it and check your zero before going on an important hunt.
Owning a bore sight goes a long way to making sure it is on perfect every time. You need the type that fits in the barrel and has the optic that give you the X and Y cordinates - called a Culmonator (sp). A laser or similar will not be fine eoungh to put it back on the money exactly and precisely.
