What is the difference between Short action and Long action rifles?
I have a Winchester model 670 30 .06 and I want to buy a one piece scope mount base for it. Certain bases fit long or short action. Is my 30 .06 short action?
30-06 is long action. It's always like this. Short action vs Long action is not dependant on the rifle model or brand.
.30-06, .270, .25-06 are long action chamberings.
.308, .243, .223 are short action chamberings for a little perspective.
To Hillabee, the only purpose they serve it to offer the "latest and greatest!!" factor so companies can sell new stuff and make more money. Ballistically they offer a very small gain (if any) and really don't justify the extra price.
