Equiptment for supernovae hunting?
I am interested in supernovae hunting and have a few questions about the sort of telescope etc I would need to purchase in order to do so. First off what sort of aperture telescope do I need? Any particular telescopes and mounts that would work well? e.g 12" LX200R? would my Canon 350d do for the taking of photographs? Any software recomendations for automation of hunting?
I dont need to be told how to do supernovae hunting I already know how to I just want to about the size of scope i would need etc
Thanks
Chris
OK... I won't tell you how to hunt them. I'll just tell you what you need to stand a chance on finding one...
You'll need
1) a scope that can photograph large sections of the sky every night.
2) a location that is very dark and clear most nights.
3) a system that will compare subsequent pictures of the same area over time and detect differences in brightness...
The LX200R is big enough for sure... You'll want a drive that can be automated, or you'll never get any sleep... Happy hunting...
