math help please!!?
A region of forest in northern maine is populated by deer and turkeys. The forest supplies two types of food, seeds and roughage. FOr one year, each deer requires 1 unit of seeds and .5 units of roughage. Each turkey requires .2 units of seed and 1 unit of roughage per year. The forest can normally supply at most 600 units of seed and 525 units of roughage. what is the total number of animals this forest can support??
So, there are really two questions. Let's use d for deer and t for turkey.
1d + .2t=600
.5d + 1t = 525
Solve one of those for d or t. Substitute that into the other equation.
Example:
a+b=500
2a+b=600
b=500-a
2a+(500-a)=600
a+500=600
a=100
2a+b=600
2(100)+b=600
b=400
To check:
a+b=500
100 + 400 = 500
True
Now do the same for the turkeys and the deer.
