Is the check for a rifle/shotgun the same as a pistol?
When I was 18 I got a felony but it got put away with my juvenile record I.E Youthful Offenders status. I was told I could not purchse a weapon of any kind I went to Walmart an bought a .22 just to see an I got it so does that mean I'll get approved for a pistol? or maybe I lucked out cause I am in the military?
Being in the military will not affect how your NICS check is done or the results thereof (unless you were dishonorably discharged).
The check for a handgun and long gun are exactly the same.
Trying to purchase a firearm if you are a felon is another crime.
You can contact the FBI on your own to see how your NICS check will come back.
To obtain a copy of your FBI Record, you must send a written request to:
Federal Bureau of Investigation
Special Correspondence Unit
1000 Custer Hollow Road
Clarksburg, WV 26302
You are required to provide the following with your written request:
-An $18 money order payable to the U.S. Treasury;
-A ten-print fingerprint card bearing your fingerprints from a local law enforcement office;
-A return mailing address for your response; and
-A court-certified copy of a final disposition regarding your criminal offense in order to update your FBI Criminal History Record.
