Suggestions for a good shoulder holster?
For a Glock 19, I'm a somewhat skinny guy but just looking for suggestions.
Thanks
Good info Jeff. Right now I have a cheap cheap shoulder holster off ebay. I bought it just to try around the house, practice concealment with, and test some of those negatives first hand. I haven't decided if it's right for me yet but wanted to start researching options.
Hello Dillion,
I have carried concealed for 30+ years in Boston, Portland Me, and now Alaska. There is nothing more useless in the world than a badly made, cheap, illfitting shoulder holster.
Your best bang for the buck is the Miami Classic made by Galco. This is a limited duty, couple of times a week, type holster that is very comfortable and practical. The difference between a limited duty and full duty shoulder holster - full duty are a bit tougher and take a week or two of full use to break in - might take you 6 months if you don't wear one all the time to break one of them in. A full duty will last years and years of fully use. The limited duty are less expensive, feel good right out of the box - but - will wear out and stretch after a year or so of constanst use and abuse.
Next step up from Miami Classic by Galco is their CH series. This is pretty cute - they have one standard shoulder rig that uses interchangble holsters and mag pouches. Rather than a sholder holster for every darn gun you own - you just swap the holster out! For people like me that have a winter carry gun (big XD in 45acp) and a summer carry gun (FN 5.7 or PPKS) when wearing lighter clothese - it's great.
Bianchi is a bit less expensive and is good stuff. DeSantis can take along time to break in - but - they are the better choice for your huge revolvers like the 480 Ruger or 500 S&W.
And keep in mind it can take 3-5 days of wearing one to finally get it set correctly. This is why the Galco replaceable rig is in demand. The interchangable holsters are designed to be swapped and not change the way it fits.
If you have a blue pistol - buy a lined version. If you are going to wear it allot and keep taking a stainless one out - buy a lined one. A lined one never reacts with the bluing and does not scratch your blue pistol. The unlined ones work better for people who are very active - it will hold the gun a bit tighter - the down side is it will leave holster marks after time.
Feel free to email me.
Hope this helps
