Would an airsoft red dot sight/scope aim at the same spot if it were mounted on the side, not the top?
Because I have an AEG with a clip that goes on top, not the bottom, and I'm looking to get a red dot scope for it.
Red dot sights are, generally, adjustable. This is because they're intended to be used on various different guns, all of which have different set ups, and no two people see the same; if I set up a gun so the red dot is on the target, other people might using it might see the dot nowhere near where the bullet will hit.
So the issue is more whether the scope will be adjustable enough to make it hit the target. If the gun you're buying has a rail for mounting scopes, it should work no problem, if you plan on adding the scope yourself, remember you'll need to angle it slightly (so the end towards you is slightly further out than the end towards the barrel), so that the red dot marker and the bb can intersect (most red dots aren't adjustable enough for this to happen otherwise at less than 100m).
Also, note that sights on the side of a weapon aren't that popular for a reason. The cross over will take the bullet wide of the zero, not down/upwards. Since a human is taller than he is wide, this means that at distances other than the one you zeroed at you're more likely to miss.
So in summary, as long as the scope is adjustable (so costs more than $10 or so), then it will work no problem.
Hope this helps
