Hi i have a gun made by Smith and Wesson and colt 45 pistol is it worth more?
I was wondering since it has the Smith and Wesson Name and it is a patent pending model it is a 45 stainless steel barrel and black stock! Just wondering if anyone knows about the gun that has two Manufactuer names! I got it for a trade and the guy i got it from said it is a rare gun from the 1980s I just want to know how much it is worth! Thanks for any info!
Sounds Like a Smith & Wesson model 625. This was the stainless version of the model 25, a large frame (N-frame) 6 shot double action revolver that was available in .45 ACP or .45 Colt calibers. The 625 was introduced in 1989 and is still in production. There are many variations as far as barrel length, grips, sights, round butt/square butt, barrel profile, fluted/nonfluted cylinder, etc. If you want to know the exact details of your particular firearm you can submit a research request to the Smith and Wesson historian.
From S&W website:
(Enclose check, payable to Smith & Wesson, at the rate of $50 for each Letter Of Authenticity requested.

As far as being rare, it could be, such as a limited production version that was was made for distributors such a Lew Horton, Accusport, RSR, etc. Model number should be stamped inside the frame, under the cylinder crane. Unlatch the cylinder, swing it out, and on the non-moving portion of the frame you should see a stamp like 625-2, 625-3, etc.
