Ez Finder II alternative?
I recently purchased an Orion SkyQuest XT8 telescope and it came with the Ez Finder II. I like the sight, but my major problem is the red light. Even with the brightness adjustably, it is still difficult to spot faint objects through the scope. Are there any good alternatives or should I just get over it?
Congratulations, nice scope. My first real telescope was an Orion 8 inch dob. As far as a finder, I would recommend getting a Telrad Finder.

It projects a red "bulls eye" pattern on the surface, and is pretty much the de-facto standard for the majority of amateur telescopes and costs about 40 bucks. It is heavier than your present finder so you will have to add a counterweight near the mirror. Lots of people just stick old speaker magnets on the metal OTA for that purpose. Additionally there are LOTS of free Telrad finder charts on the internet.
