EOTech M557 HOLO.Sight w/ 3X Mag. or Trijicon TA31DOC ACOG 4x32 BAC Scope w/ Red Dot 4 my ar-15?
i have a S&W ar-15 M&P looking for a good scope, for long range and close quarter. the eotech setup is cheaper, should i pay a good amount more for the acog? both have great reviews.
EOTech M557 HOLOgraphic Tactical Sight with 3X Magnifier and FTS Mount $879
Trijicon TA31DOC ACOG 4x32 BAC Illuminated Crosshair Rifle Scope w/ Red Dot Sight and TA51 Mount Riflescope $1400
So, really what you are paying for in spending the additional $500 in going to an ACOGS is really simple. No batteries. Trijicon has managed to combine fiber optics and tritium to come up with a red dot effect optic without needing external power.
So, if you're one of those folks who is going to be out for weeks at a time or be really inconvenienced if you forget to turn your EOTech off and you run out of power than spring for the ACOGS, it does have a bit more magnification, but that isn't really that big a deal.
If you are mostly a range warrior, or competition shooter (like USPSA 3 gun open class), varmint hunter or using as your back up for home defense, then I don't think I'd spring for the additional cost of an ACOGS. (Although, they are really, really cool)
