What would my range be with this gun?
Ok. A Remington 870 thumbhole stock, 18" barrel, fully rifled, and using 3" sabot slugs. Also a 20 gauge.
What would your range be on deer.
I am with akluis on this one. The range depends not only on the ballistics of the slug or bullet but also on the ability of the shooter to reliably place his shots into the vital area of the target. And that is affected by the accuracy capability of both shooter and the gun and by the conditions at the time. Strong cross winds for example reduce the range at which you can reliable hit the vital area of the target. So the useable range could vary from 50 to 100 yards as conditions alter. I would be surprised if any hunter could reliable get three shots into the paper plate at 150 yards with the gun you mention under hunting conditions.
