Wildlife Ranch Hunting
Where would be the best place to live when you work in D.C?

I am most likely heading to DC after I graduate next year for politics and was wondering where would be a nice place to live. I was raised on a ranch in Texas but spent the last 5 years in a big city. I honestly don't mind either the city or suburb but would love a place with a small population, lots of wildlife, maybe a park to hike or hunt in, but still close enough to the city to enjoy the night life. Any suggestions would really help. And as budget wise, probably 1500 a month or house under 500k. Thank.

Oh and what is the transportation like? I have my own car but would really love to know if maybe it's cheaper to just use the trains. Please let me know

It's much less hassle to just use the trains, because parking is an absolute nightmare, especially if you are going to be near the Capitol etc. Convenience to one of the stops is something to look for.

It's kind of difficult to recommend a place because the area is such a mishmash, though I would recommend the Maryland or Virginia suburbs unless you get an excellent deal in a good city neighborhood. There are a lot of places in the city and suburbs where a few blocks make a serious difference. If you can visit to take a look, or possibly take a short-term rental while you find a place better suited to you, that would be best, but if you have the option of buying, call a few Realtors. They will be able to give you more detailed information about what is available in your price range and the pluses and minuses of the specific area.

(A park to hunt in right near your residence is unlikely, unless you like VERY long commutes, but you have a short drive to the Appalachians for some beautiful hiking and seasonal hunting.)
