How much is my WWII Japanese Rifle Worth?
I have a Type 99 rifle. I have no idea on the exact model but the person I got it from said it's chambered for 7.7 and was in a "Jungle" variation. It's forward grip was removed and the sling mount was moved back. The Chrysanthemum is in perfect condition along with all the other trademarks. The sights are all good too. My grandfather got this on Okinawa and hasn't touched it since, it's been sitting in his closet the whole time. It's missing the spring that pushes the bullets into place. Some people are telling me it's an early variant of the Type 99 since it still has the AA sights. Would I increase the value if I got it to fire and if I replaced the stock with the correct early war stock?
Here's a picture.

Thank you, and if you have any questions or would like more pictures just give me an email.
For God's sake, don't fire that Type 99 unless you have it professionally pressure tested so the barrel doesn't explode in your face.
Some production rifles are fine. But they began to cut corners around early '44. Consider any late WW II Japanese firearm as suspect until gone over with a fine tooth comb.
The value as a correct period firearm is fairly good otherwise. Even as is, you'll get a fairly good price if the existing finish is good.
